Tag 3: 22.07.2017 Open-Ship im Hafen von Québec

Der Tag begann mit einem ungewöhnlichen Überfallversuch in der 2-4 Hafenwache. Eine Katze unbekannter Herkunft und unbekanntem Alters traute sich auf die Gangway und war im Begriff, das Schiff zu entern. Nur das beherzte Eingreifen der Wache (Streicheln und wieder aussetzen) konnte diesen Versuch unterbinden. Die endgültige Flucht ergriff das Ungeheuer, als sich die Gangway bewegte und ein Holzbrett ins Wasser fiel.
Der Rest der Mannschaft bekam von diesem Zwischenfall nichts mit und wurde von einer pavarottigleichen Stimme zu den zarten Klängen von House Of The Rising Sun (The famous Quebec-Version) um 0700 geweckt.
Nach dem Frühstück wurden die Sicherheitsunterweisungen abgeschlossen und die Wachen 8-12 sowie 4-8 testeten am Besanstagsegel das Segelsetzen.
Um die Mittagszeit gab die Stammbesatzung das Kommando „Klar bei Pool“ und funktionierten einen Stauraum zu einem komfortablen (24°C kalten) Whirlpool um, welcher ausgiebig genutzt wurde.
Den Rest des Nachmittags hatten die Trainees frei und erneut die Möglichkeit, sich der Stadt Québec zu widmen.
Am Abend dann das absolute Highlight des Tages: Nachdem alle Schiffe die Bordbeleuchtung abgeschaltet oder gedimmt hatten, zauberte ein Schiff auf der Mitte des St. Lawrence Stroms ein gigantisches zehnminütiges Feuerwerk.
Welches im Anschluss durch Applaus und die Nebelhörner vieler großer und kleiner Schiffe frenetisch bejubelt wurde.

Day 3: 22/07/2017 Open-Ship in the port of Québec

The day began with an attempted takeover during the 2-4 harbor watch. A cat of unknown origin or age dared to climb on to the gangway and was about to enter the ship. Thanks to the strong efforts of the watch (petting and releasing) this situation was quickly controlled. The beast finally fled, when the gangway moved and pushed a wooden board into the river.
The incident passed without being noticed by the rest of the crew. At 0700, they were woken by a Pavarotti-like voice, singing the soft melody of House of the Rising Sun (The famous Québec version).
After breakfast, the safety instructions were concluded and the watches 8 -12 and 4-8 tested setting sails with the “Besanstagsegel”.
Around noon, the permanent crew gave the command “ready at pool”. For that a storing room was remodeled into a comfort (24°C cold) hot tub, which was very popular.
The trainees got the rest of the afternoon off and were able to explore Québec further.
The absolute highlight of the day took place at 2200: all the ships turned off or dimmed their lights. Then one ship moored in the middle of the St. Lawrence River, fired of a magical firework that lasted for 10 minutes.
This earned standing ovations by the spectators and was answered by the foghorns of ships of all sizes.
