Tag 5: 24.07.2017 Segeltraining im St. Lawrence River

Wetter: 17° C blauer Himmel, kein bis schwacher Wind
Der Tag begann mit einem Happy Birthday Song und einem 7-3-1 für das Geburtstagskind Fiene. Nach dem Frühstück gab es dann eine besondere Übung:
Gegen 10:30 wurde eine Dummy-Puppe ins Rigg gebrach, um zu simulieren, wie eine Person in Not (z.B. durch mangelende Motivation das Rigg zu verlassen) aus dem Rigg geborgen werden kann. Die Übung verlief gut, der Dummy ist wohlauf! (Auch wenn er etwas grün aussah)
Der Wachwechsel von 8-12 auf 0-4 wurde aufgrund der Öffnungszeiten des Kinderschwimmbeckens am Whirlpool durchgeführt. Dies hinterließ bei der 0
-4 Wache derartig nachhaltige Verwirrung, dass das Glasen auf seltsamste Weise durchgeführt wurde: Es wurde 3:00 Uhr geglast, gefolgt von 3:00 Uhr
(15 Minuten später), gefolgt von 4:00 Uhr, gefolgt von 3:30 Uhr. Das muss noch geübt werden!
Die Herkulesaufgabe erwartete dann ebenfalls die 0-4 Wache: Da leichter Wind aufkam, gab es einige Segel zu setzen, sodass die Wache Großuntermars-, Großobermars-, Großbram-, Grosroyal-, Fock-, Voruntermars-, Vorobermars-, Vorbram-, und Vorroyalsegel setzte!
Mit gefühlten zwei Knoten konnte so das erste Mal gesegelt werden! Leider hielt der Wind nicht lange an, sodass bereits die 4-8 Wache alle Arbeit wieder (durch noch mehr Arbeit) zerstören musste.
Abends wurde ein Sabotageversuch festgestellt: Jemand hatte ungesüßtes Kakaopulver in die Kabapackungen gefüllt – vielleicht eine späte Rache der Katze?

Day 5: 24/07/2017 Sail Training at St. Lawrence River
Position: 49° 11.2‘ N, 64° 33.3‘ W
Weather: 18° C, blue sky, just weak wind
The day began with a happy birthday song and a 7-3-1 for one of our crew members Fiene. After breakfast we had a special drill: At 10:30 a dummy was brought into the rig to demonstrate an emergency rescue (e.g. because of too less motivation to leave the rig). The drill went as planned and the dummy is well and happy (although it looked kinda green)!
The 0-4 watch was faced with a “Hercules-task” today: A light wind came up and therefore they were busy setting sails. Thus, the main lower topsail, the main upper topsail, the main topgallant, the main royal, the foresail, the fore lower topsail, the fore upper topsail, the fore topgallant and the fore royal decorated the sky.
At a speed of what felt like 2 knots, we sailed for the very first time! Sadly the wind died down fast, thus the 4 – 8 watch destroyed the hard work of the 0-4 (with even more work).
In the evening and attempted sabotage shocked the ship: Someone dared to fill pure cacao into the sweetend instant “Kaba” – Was this the late revenge of the cat?
